Labelled conceptual refrigerator diagram

Simplified refrigerator parts with compressor, condenser, expansion device, evaporator, fan, sensor, defrost and door seal

The diagram explains component roles; it is not a model-specific wiring diagram or disassembly guide.

1 · Compressor

Circulates refrigerant through the cooling circuit. Starting trouble can also involve its controls or power supply.

2 · Condenser

Releases heat; may be behind the cabinet, underneath or embedded in side walls.

3 · Expansion device

Meters refrigerant into the evaporator; design varies by model.

4 · Evaporator

Absorbs heat from the compartment; frost-free units often hide it behind an internal panel.

5 · Fan and air ducts

Distribute cool air in fan-assisted models. Blocked vents can cause uneven temperatures.

6 · Thermostat and sensors

Measure temperature and guide cooling cycles. A control issue is not always a compressor fault.

7 · Defrost assembly

On equipped models, a heater, sensor and control remove frost automatically.

8 · Door seal and drain

Keep warm air out and route defrost water away. Leaks and dirt can affect operation.

How the cycle works

The compressor drives refrigerant around a closed circuit. The condenser releases heat to the room, the expansion device reduces pressure, and the evaporator absorbs heat inside the appliance. Refrigerant returns to the compressor and the cycle repeats. Fans and controls manage distribution and timing where fitted.

Sealed-system and electrical work requires qualified technicians and model-specific information.
